What is the Spear and Jackson Select Stainless Steel Border Fork like?
This is a modern style border fork, with a polypropylene shaft and a stainless steel socket and tines. It has rubber ergonomic grips on its shaft and handle.
What's it like to use the Spear and Jackson Select Stainless Steel Border Fork?
Its effective ergonomic grips make this very comfortable to use. Its handle is a YD shape, and is angled above the points of the tines, so you're always pushing directly into the soil. At 18cm, this handle is also comparatively wide, which makes it easy to use two-handed and generate a little extra force.
Is the Spear and Jackson Select Stainless Steel Border Fork strong?
The strong polypropylene shaft runs into a double riveted socket, which comes a third of the way up the shaft. The handle is also made of this material, and is very durable and strong. However, after this tool's useful life, its strong polypropylene handle will take 20-30 years to degrade, and the process of degradation is harmful to soil.
The design and strength of this fork result in excellent performance. It digs very well, and the extra force from the angled handle and wide grips means it’s easy to effectively break up soil. The ergonomic grip along the shaft helps create torque when turning over soil and it transplants well - the tines hold clumps of soil together for root balls but soil doesn’t stick to the tines.
Is the Spear and Jackson Select Stainless Steel Border Fork good value for money?
This fork is very reasonably priced - it comes in at the lower price range for these forks, and has a generous ten-year warranty. Combined with its excellent performance and strength, we think this is good value for money.
