What is the Ryobi ONE+ System?
An extensive system that includes a huge range of tools, all of which use the same Ryobi One+ Lithium ion 18V battery. Some tools can be purchased as a starter set with a battery and charger but most One+ tools come on their own and the battery and charger is purchased separately.
The One + system includes over 100 different garden and power tools including grass trimmers, with a range of cutting widths, leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers with a range of blade lengths, pole pruners and lawnmowers. Lawnmowers have cutting widths from 33cm to 40 and there is also a hybrid mower that can be used either with batteries or a power cable. Power tools include belt sanders, angle grinders and drills.
Is there a range of batteries available in the Ryobi ONE+ System?
There are six 18 V batteries available from 1.3Ah to 5Ah (Amperes dictate how long the battery will run, Volts how much charge they hold) and most have LED displays to indicate charge. There is also a number of different chargers, including one for in-car use, a fast charger and a 6-port charger and each has indicator lights to show when batteries are charging and fully charged. Batteries and charger are available to buy individually or together in sets.
We tested the OLT1832 grass trimmer, OBL18JB leaf blower and OHT1845 hedge trimmer and all the tools, apart from the grass trimmer, which was very easy to assemble, were ready to go.
The hedge trimmer is comfortable and light and trims well, even medium woody growth is cut efficiently but it feels a little flimsy, sounds tinny and has no safety lock.
The blower is quiet, well balanced and powerful and the long nozzle has a scraper on the end for shifting mud or stubborn leaves. The speed can be varied by adjusting the pressure of your hand.
The grass trimmer has a telescopic shaft and adjustable handle and the head rotates for trimming edges or angles for different situations. Its cutting width is comparatively small and the gauge feels flimsy. However other trimmers, with wider cutting widths, are available in the system.
Who is the Ryobi ONE+ System most useful for?
These are light, well thought out tools ideal for weekend gardeners and those with smaller gardens.
Is the Ryobi ONE+ System good value for money?
The individual tools were competitively priced – blower £74.99, grass trimmer £61.99 and hedge trimmer £84.99 (all without battery and charger) and for the features and ease of use we think they're very good value for money. Plus, with the battery and charger already in hand, you’ll save money if you need other garden or DIY tools in the future
