What is the WormBox wormery like and where can I put it?

From French manufacturer Recyworm, this smart, circular two-tone stacking wormery is ideal where space is at a premium and looks equally at home indoors or outside. The solid lid can double as a seat (maximum load 100 kg)or it can be replaced with a tray and you can grow plants in the top. The casters on the base allow it to be moved around easily and the overlap on the trays make the wormery completely rainproof so there’s no need to site it undercover. There’s a wide range of tray colours to contrast with the black lid and base, including green, turquoise, raspberry, beige and blue. As with all wormeries, it should be placed out of direct sunlight as the worms will die if they get too hot.

What’s the WormBox wormery like to set up and use?

The WormBox is easily assembled without tools, although small hands are an advantage to screw on the washer that goes on the tap inside the sump. The trays have all-round grips, making them easy to handle and the sump that holds the worm liquid has a raised interior that acts as a refuge so that any worms that fall through don’t drown in the liquid. The only minor issue we encountered when using the WormBox is that the tap is close to the ground, so a shallow container has to be used when draining the liquid.

Who is the WormBox wormery most useful for?

Any home where space is at a premium or where the wormery is highly visible will appreciate the smart and versatile design. It can be sited in the corner of a room or outdoors on a patio or balcony and there's no need to ensure protection from the rain. The 16 litre capacity trays process a reasonable amount of waste: two trays are likely to be sufficient for 1-2 people while additional trays can be purchased for a larger household, up to a maximum of 4 trays.

Is the WormBox wormery value for money and is it built to last?

The WormBox is very sturdily made. The black components are made from 100% recycled plastic and the price quoted includes worms and bedding. Although this isn't the cheapest stacking wormery, it's not the dearest either. However, do note that at present this product needs to be ordered from France, so the price is likely to vary depending on the euro exchange rate. It comes with a 15-year warranty
