Night phlox,

Zaluzianskya ovata
is a low-growing, alpine perennial, native to southern Africa. It's highly prized for the numerous small white blooms, which open at night and release a beautiful, sweet perfume.

It's not reliably hardy, but makes a good pot plant that can be moved to somewhere frost-free over winter. It looks lovely in a night garden combined with other fragranced plants like nicotianas, night-scented stocks and summer phlox.

The blooms of Zaluzianskya ovata 'Orange Eye' have white petals with a rich orange centre. For best results, grow Zaluzianskya ovata 'Orange Eye' in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Cut it back hard once flowering has finished. Reduce watering in winter.
