The hybrid orchid genus x Ascocenda is the result of a cross between Ascocentrum and Vanda. Typically, plants have the large flowers of the Vanda parent and the compact growth habit of the Ascocentrum parent. Flowers are brightly coloured and are borne up to three times a year. They make stunning houseplants.
Ascocenda 'Meda Arnold' bears masses of large, pink-red flowers on mid-green stems. It can be grown in pots with orchid compost or hung in the air in a greenhouse or conservatory. For best results, mist frequently. Plants do best in well-lit situations, and can be grown in full sunlight. If growing your Ascocenda as a hanging plant, take it down once a week, fully submerge it in water for a few minutes, and return it to its growing position. Reduce watering in autumn.
