Lilacs, Syringa, are classic garden shrubs and small trees bearing panicles of fragrant, tubular flowers in late-spring to early summer. The flowers are excellent for cutting and work well in spring bouquets, and are popular with insects.
Syringa 'Red Pixie' is a compact lilac, baring masses of fragrant pink flowers, which open from red buds. Perfect for a small garden it may also be grown in a large pot.
Grow Syringa 'Red Pixie' in moist but well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun. Remove spent flowers in summer and mulch annually in spring. Prune lightly in late winter, remembering that most species bear flowers on the previous year’s growth.
