Grown as a flamboyant bedding plant or conservatory houseplant, solenostemon (syn coleus) comes in a multitude of forms and colours, with dramatic foliage ranging from bright reds, yellows, greens, bronzes, pinks and browns. An ornamental member of the mint family, it's native to Indonesia and is therefore tender. Although many species are technically perennials, they're typically grown as annuals in the UK.
Solenostemon 'Trusty Rusty' has semi-succulent stems bearing ovate, velvety, rust-colored leaves with a serrated, golden outer edge.
Grow Solenostemon 'Trusty Rusty' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun, ideally in a sheltered spot. Plant out after all risk of frost has passed. If growing in pots, move indoors in autumn to overwinter. Alternatively, grow as a conservatory houseplant.
