Perennial salvias are invaluable in ornamental borders for their display of spiky, nectar-rich flowers from summer through to autumn.

Salvia 'Krystle Pink' is a shrubby hybrid sage, bearing masses of bicoloured flowers in two shades of pink, from May to November. It's perfect for a dry spot and hardy if given full sun and good drainage. It's extremely popular with bees and makes a stunning cut flower.

For best results deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage flowers into mid-autumn. Mulch annually with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plants may need protection in the harshest winters.
