Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll'

Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll' is a hardy English shrub rose, bred partly from the old Portland variety 'Madame Knorr'. Its fat, pink, eye-catching buds open into large cup-shaped blooms with the petals arranged in a clear spiral pattern, and a magnificent fragrance. It flowers continuously all summer.

Grow Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost. As a shrub rose, it's best pruned in late summer, after flowering has finished. Prune most stems lightly. To encourage young, vigorous growth, cut back a few of the oldest stems each year. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
