The yellow azalea, Rhododendron luteum, is a bushy, upright, deciduous shrub with fragrant warm-yellow flowers that appear in spring. You might also come across this fast-growing species under the name Azalea pontica. Rhododendron luteum grows best in full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-drained neutral or acidic soil that has been enriched with plenty of organic matter.
However, Rhododendron luteum is listed as an invasive, non-native species on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act in England and Wales. It is an offence to plant or otherwise cause to grow these species in the wild. You should stop them spreading from your garden and avoid purchasing or accepting gifts of these species.
