Liriope muscari is an evergreen perennial with neat, low, grassy foliage, from which masses of blue-purple spikes, similar to grape hyacinths, emerge in autumn. It's perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border and can be left undisturbed for many years to form low-maintenance ground cover. Tolerant of drought, it's also suitable for growing beneath trees and shrubs.

For best results grow Liriope muscari in well-drained soil in partial to full shade. Cut back old leaves and divide congested clumps in spring. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
