Jasminum are evergreen or deciduous shrubs that often climb via twining stems. Their fragrant flowers are star-shaped.
Sweetly scented jasmine, Jasminum polyanthum, is a twining climber best grown as a houseplant – it's a fine choice for a conservatory. It looks fantastic all year round, bearing dark, glossy evergreen foliage which contrasts with masses of white, deeply fragrant flowers from late-winter to spring. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Grow Jasminum polyanthum up an obelisk or similar support in a large pot, or train it to cover a wall. It can be taken outside to a sheltered, sunny patio in summer. Cut back after flowering to keep growth in check.
