Jasminum are evergreen or deciduous shrubs that often climb via climbing stems. Their fragrant flowers are star-shaped.

Common jasmine, Jasminum officinale, is a sweetly scented climber, bearing dark green pinnate leaves – the perfect foil for its clusters of fragrant white flowers from June to August. It's a versatile, deciduous climber, which tolerates shade but does best in full sun.

Grow Jasminum officinale in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny, site. It grows quickly, and is ideal for covering a large south or west-facing wall.
