Perennial or border phlox, Phlox paniculata, is a tall-growing phlox native to the USA, typically with pink flowers. However there are many garden-worthy cultivars available in a range of heights and with different coloured flowers, making them a popular stalwart of the traditional border.
Perennial phlox is renowned for its colourful flowers with a sweet, honey-like fragrance. It’s an ideal choice for the middle of a border, and thrives in rich, moist soil in light shade.
Phlox paniculata ‘Peacock Neon Purple’ bears large, dark magenta-purple flowers with a sweet fragrance, on compact, disease-resistant plants. For best results grow in partial shade, water regularly and deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. ‘Peacock Neon Purple’ makes an excellent cut flower.
