Phalaris arundinacea is a spreading grass with green-and-white-striped foliage and narrow pale green flower panicles. It will grow almost anywhere, which makes it useful for growing in a semi-wild garden or shady areas under trees. It's fast growing, but its growth can be restricted by planting it in a container, on a patio or with the pot sunken and hidden in the ground.

Grow Phalaris arundinacea in moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Divide clumps in spring and summer.
