Penstemon 'Garnet' (syn. 'Andenken an Friedrich Hahn') is a particularly elegant penstemon, bearing slender, foxglove-like flowers in wine-red, from July to October, against fresh green leaves. Like most penstemons, it's perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or in pot on the patio, and its blooms are a magnet for bumblebees.
Grow Penstemon 'Garnet' in full sun to partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil. In colder regions, you may need to offer protection in winter – apply a thick mulch of well-rotted manure or compost in autumn to protect the roots. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and divide congested clumps in spring.
