Known as false Solomon’s seal, due to its similar habit and leaf shape, Maianthemum racemosum is a clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial, bearing arching stems of large, alternate leaves. The white flowers are borne in huge plumes, and are followed by pretty green berries, which develop red mottling with age and eventually become fully red in autumn.

For best results grow Maianthemum racemosum in moist but well-drained soil in part shade. It's ideal for naturalising in shady borders, or under trees and shrubs.
