Lupins are classic summer bedding plants, their flowering period coinciding with the first flush of roses. Their lush, grey-green leaves emerge in April, hiding the last of the fading daffodil foliage. The flowers are tall, upright spikes, densely packed with rows of small pea flowers.
Lupinus 'My Castle' is a tall-growing lupin, bearing dense spikes of fragrant, red to pink flowers, often with a darker standard petal, in early to midsummer. For best results grow in full sun in moist but well-drained soil, and protect young plants from slugs and snails. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat-blooming. Lupinus 'My Castle' has a bushy, upright habit and therefore doesn't need staking.
