Linum grandiflorum is a low-growing annual native to North Africa, though it has been introduced elsewhere, including the UK, but is not invasive. Throughout summer and into autumn it produces bright scarlet flowers with dark red-black 'eyes'. Flowering flax looks equally good in containers or dotted around beds and borders.

When sowing, do so generously to encourage good, bushy clumps, or sow amongst other wildflowers to create a meadow or mini-meadow. Deadhead regularly to encourage further flowers.

For best results, grow Linum grandiflorum in full sun, in a well-drained soil.
