Grown for their flamboyant, often fragrant blooms from late spring to summer, lilies are a stalwart of summer borders.
They're well suited to growing in containers, which can be positioned in borders as and when you need them.
Oriental lilies tend to have large, fragrant, outward-facing facing flowers. For best results they need acidic, or ericaceous soils, so grow them in containers if you have alkaline soil. Because blooms of many oriental lilies appear to look upwards, they're sometimes referred to as ‘stargazers’.
Lilium 'Mambo' produces deep pink-burgundy flowers with an intense, spicy fragrance. It's ideal for growing in ornamental displays with lighter-flowered lilies, and makes a striking cut flower.
