Grown for their flamboyant, often fragrant blooms from late spring to summer, lilies are a stalwart of summer borders.
Lilies are well suited to growing in containers, which can be positioned in borders as and when you need them.
Oriental lilies tend to have large, fragrant, outward-facing facing flowers. For best results they need acidic, or ericaceous soils, so grow them in containers if you have alkaline soil. Because blooms of many oriental lilies appear to look upwards, they're sometimes referred to as ‘stargazers’.
Lilium ‘Aranal’ produces red-pink, freckled blooms with a fine white margin. It's perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border, and makes a beautiful cut flower.
