A member of the protea family, Leucadendron are evergreen trees and shrubs, bearing cone-like flowers surrounded by leafy, sometimes colourful bracts.
Leucadendron ‘Red Dwarf’ is a sport of ‘Safari Sunset’. It has smaller leaves than those of ‘Safari Sunset’ and its bracts develop a deeper red colour, which lasts well into autumn.
Like all Leucadendron, grow ‘Red Dwarf’ in well-drained, acidic soiling full sun. Hardy down to -8°, you may need to offer protection in winter. Alternatively, grow in a container which you can move under glass when temperatures start to dip. As an insurance, take semi-ripe cuttings in summer, with a little bottom heat to get them off to a good start.
