Tree mallows or shrubby mallows are fast growing short-lived perennials that flower in their first year, and develop rapidly in size to form large bushy shrubs. Throughout summer they bear masses of large, open, white to pale pink blooms with a bright red eye.
Lavatera 'Barnsley' has striking soft pink flowers with a darker centre. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Grow Lavatera 'Barnsley' in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. Mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost.
