Lathyrus odoratus ‘Almost Black’
Sweet peas can be trained to grow up canes for high-quality blooms, or allowed to scramble up a trellis or obelisk. They make excellent cut flowers. Plants need a cool moist root run, and regular watering in dry weather.
Lathyrus odoratus ‘Almost Black’ is a modern grandiflora variety, bearing masses of highly scented dark maroon flowers throughout summer. The almost black blooms make a striking addition to the garden and in floral arrangements.
For best results, feed ‘Almost Black’ fortnightly with a high-potash fertiliser, and deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.
