Though non-native, Juglans regia is commonly grown in Britain for its walnuts and ornamental value. Hardy, it's perfect for the British climate, and all but the smallest gardens. Nuts are produced after three to five years.

For best results grow Juglans regia in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Prune annually to maximise fruiting potential and contain growth. Walnuts can be harvested when green for pickling, or left until autumn to be dried and stored.
