Bearded irises have 'beards' on each of the falls (lower petals) of the flowers. Iris 'War Chief' bears large, ruby red flowers with slightly ruffled standard and fall petals and yellow-orange beards, on branched stems. It's ideal for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or gravel garden, and makes an excellent cut flower.
For best results grow Iris 'War Chief' in well-drained soil in full sun, and mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost annually.
