Bearded irises are so-named after the 'beards' on each of the falls (lower petals) of the flowers. Tall bearded irises grow to a height of around 70cm or more, and flower in late-spring and early summer.
The ruffled flowers of Iris 'Song of Norway' are silver-blue with a deep blue beard. It's ideal for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or gravel garden, and makes an excellent cut flower.
For best results grow Iris 'Song of Norway' in well-drained soil in full sun, and mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost annually.
