Lacecaps and mopheads are the most commonly grown hydrangeas in our gardens. Mopheads have full, round heads of large petals, and lacecaps have flattish flower heads of large outer petals and tiny flowers in the centre.
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Rotschwanz' is a red-flowering lacecap hydrangea. For best results, grow plants in alkaline soils, as plants grown in acidic soils have more of a blue colour. It’s perfect for growing in a mixed, herbaceous border, especially when used in conjunction with other hydrangeas.
