Lacecaps and mopheads are the most commonly grown hydrangeas in our gardens. Mopheads have full, round heads of large petals, and lacecaps have flattish flower heads of large outer petals and tiny flowers in the centre.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Koria' is a lovely lacecap variety, conspicuous for its serrated bracts that surround a centre of blue or pink flowers, set against apple-green foliage. Like most hydrangeas, plants grown in alkaline soils produce pink flowers, while those grown in acid soils bear blue flowers.

For best results, grow Hydrangea macrophylla 'Koria' in a mixed herbaceous border or in a large pot on the patio, with shelter from cold winds.
