Lacecaps and mopheads are the most commonly grown hydrangeas in our gardens. Mopheads have full, round heads of large petals, and lacecaps have flattish flower heads of large outer petals and tiny flowers in the centre.

Hydrangea ‘Avant Garde’ is a mophead hydrangea with a sturdy habit and dark foliage. It bears enormous flower heads up to 30cm in diameter, which start off a white-pink and mature to green and then red in autumn. Flowers are produced continually throughout summer, making ‘Avant Garde’ a great choice for smaller gardens.

Grow ‘Avant Garde’ in a mixed herbaceous border or even in a large pot on the patio.
