Hydrangea aborescens is a large bushy North American shrub bearing a mixture of tiny fertile florets and larger more showy sterile ones, which in fact have coloured bracts in place of petals. Most cultivars have white flowers.
Hydrangea arborescens 'Invincibelle' has unusual pink flowers. Long-lasting, large and almost round, these are perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or cutting for the vase - the blooms may even be dried to use in winter arrangements.
Easy to grow, grow Hydrangea aborescens 'Invincibelle' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Plants are typically hardy but late frosts can damage the buds, so grow them in a sheltered corner or against a warm wall in cold gardens. Naturally forming a well- branched framework, it needs very little pruning.
