Hostas are popular, shade-loving plants, grown mainly for their beautiful foliage, although most varieties also have pretty, tubular flowers. Hosta leaves come in a wide range of shapes, colors, sizes, and textures, so there's a huge choice to suit you and your garden.

Hosta 'Sum and Substance’ has large yellow-green leaves and delicate lilac flowers. It’s ideal for growing in a shady border or as part of a shady container display. Unlike some hostas, which can tolerate sun, Hosta 'Sum and Substance' requires partial to full shade, as sun can scorch its leaves and stress the plant, as it needs moist soil.

For best results, grow in partial to full shade, in rich, fertile, moist soil or compost. Add plenty of organic matter to the soil before planting. Mulch annually.
