Hosta sieboldiana var. elegans is a superb hosta, bearing dramatically large, channelled, puckered leaves, up to 46cm long and 30cm wide, which veer between being rounded and heart-shaped. Pale lilac flowers appear in early summer.
Though it can be grown in borders, Hosta sieboldiana var. elegans is best highlighted in a large pot, which can also help to deter slugs. For best results grow in sun to partial shade, and feed annually in early spring. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
