Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'

Hakonechloa is a genus of beautiful, low-growing ornamental grasses. Forming gently arching mounds, hakonechloas are perfect for softening the edges of a path or growing in a pot. They look fantastic when planted alongside more formal plants, such as box, Buxus sempervirens. Its architectural blooms can be dried and used in flower arranging.

Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' is a particularly striking variety, bearing vivid yellow and green striped foliage, which can take on a red hue when grown in full sun. From late summer, pale green, slender, flower spikes appear.

For best results, grow Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' in moist, humus-rich soil in full sun to partial shade. Cut foliage down before new growth starts in spring and mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost.
