Plants that flower in November
Discover which flowers you can pick from your garden in November.
Autumn has well and truly arrived in November, and the first frosts are likely to come too, if they haven't already. Make the most of any late flowerers such as dahlias and cosmos before the cold weather arrives.
There are slimmer pickings in the garden at this time of year, but you can still find flowers to pick for the house, including nerines and schizostylis and chrysanthemums.
Here's what you can pick from the garden in November.
Nerines
Nerines come in a variety of lipstick shades, most commonly bright pink. Many aren't hardy and are best grown in a greenhouse, but Nerine bowdenii can be grown outdoors. Plant the bulbs in early summer and grow in a sunny spot. They do well in pots.
Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums are a must for extending interest in a border - and in a vase. Compact varieties are good for the front of a border; taller varieties (the best for cutting) often need staking. Chrysanths are not fully hardy, so overwinter in the same way as dahlias - lift and store, or mulch heavily.
Ornamental grasses
The buff flowerheads of ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus look great in borders during the winter months, where they add valuable structure and interest. Snip a few flowerheads for a vase, too.
Hesperantha coccinea
Hesperantha (also known as schizostylis) flowers from late summer to the first frosts, so if the weather has been kind, you can still enjoy the flowers in November. Discover how to grow hesperantha.
Euonymus europaeus
Euonymus europaeus is a stunning sight in autumn, when the bush is smothered in bright-orange, pink-winged fruits and stunning autumn foliage. Pick a few for a vase to complement other flowers.
Make the most of evergreens
You can also pick evergreens in November - try rosemary or eucalyptus for foliage and scent.Christmas offer
