Euonymous hamiltonianus is a large shrub with very hard, dense wood, which was traditionally used for making wooden staffs and small implements. It's an attractive tree, particularly in autumn when the foliage turns a bright magenta pink, contrasting well with evergreens and other deciduous shrubs.

The small insignificant flowers which appear in the summer are followed in autumn by a profusion of pink fruits. These split open to reveal dark pink seeds. For best results grow Euonymous hamiltonianus in a sheltered spot in full sun to partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil.
