Amazon lily, Eucharis amazonica, is a bulbous perennial native to Peru. Related to amaryllis, it bears clusters of fragrant white flowers, in contrast with dark green leaves. In the British Isles it can be grown outdoors in summer but needs moving indoors in autumn. Alternatively, grow it in a pot, which you can move easily. Also suitable for growing in a conservatory, it can be grown in a hanging basket, with its leaves and flowers trailing over the sides. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit.

Grow Eucharis amazonica in moist but well-drained, fertile soil or compost. When planting, ensure the top of the bulb sits just above the soil level. Ideal for full sun to partial shade.
