The California poppy, Eschscholzia californica, is a low-maintenance annual for a variety of situations, with feathery bluish-green leaves and single blooms that come in shades of orange, red, yellow or white, which are followed by long, curved seed-pods. It can be grown in borders or containers and even used to fill cracks in paving on a sunny patio.
Grow Eschscholzia californica in poor, well-drained soil in full sun. Deadhead regularly to ensure a long flowering period.
