Chalky / Alkaline / Clay / Heavy / Moist / Well Drained / Light / Sandy
Bred in Poland and introduced to this country in 1975, Clematis 'Niobe' is a popular clematis. It produces its deep claret-red flowers over a long period, from early spring to autumn. It's perfect for training up a trellis or obelisk in a mixed sunny border.
Grow Clematis 'Niobe' in moist but well-drained soil. To enjoy the deepest colouration of these, plant in a shady spot. Falling into Pruning Group Two, remove any dead or weak stems in late winter or early spring and cut remaining stems back to the highest pair of strong-growing buds. As new growth appears in mid-spring, train this to fill any gaps.
