A viticella clematis, Clematis 'Kiev' was bred in Ukraine and named after its capital city. It boasts dark green leaves and long stems bearing dark, velvety purple-red flowers with yellow filaments and purple anthers. It's ideal for growing up an obelisk or trellis in the herbaceous border, as well as being allowed to scramble through small trees and shrubs.
Being a summer-flowering clematis, Clematis 'Kiev' is in Pruning Group 3. Simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March.
