Clematis 'Kaaru' is a free-flowering clematis, bearing medium-sized red-purple flowers from July to September. It's one of the Estonian Nursery Rhyme series of clematis, named after the 'Uhtsi, Kaaru, Kommerei' rhyme. The rhyme consists of non-existant words, and each clematis in the series is named after a word in the rhyme.

Grow it up an obelisk in the border, or use it to cover a fence or wall. You could also train it to scramble through a shrub or small tree.

Being a summer-flowering clematis, Clematis 'Kaaru' is in Pruning Group Three. Simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March.
