Bergenia ciliata is an excellent ground-cover plant, native to the Himalayas. It has large green, furry leaves that look beautiful when coated in dew on summer mornings. Pretty pink or pink-white flowers appear in early spring on short stems.
Bergenia ciliata 'Wilton' is an extremely dramatic looking cultivar, as its hairy, grey-pink leaves grow to 50cm across. For best results grow in partial shade to avoid leaf scorch, and encourage the leaves to grow as large as possible by mulching annually with well-rotted compost or manure.
