Arctotis are showy South African daisies that enjoy a good drought. In a hot sunny position on light soil, the silvery-grey bushes will be transformed into a startling show of large 10cm blooms in vibrant colours, from white and cream to bright red, with gold or dark centres.
In dull weather and late in the day, the flowers close, but open again at a touch of sunshine and warmth. They're perfect for growing at the front of borders and in patio container displays.
Arctotis x hybrida 'Flame' has lobed, green-grey leaves and orange flowers on long stems.
