Technically a half-hardy perennial but best grown in Britain as an annual, Alonsoa meridionalis 'Rebel' makes a fine bedding plant. It bears masses of brilliant scarlet flowers, providing a blaze of colour from June to October. Alonsoa belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family.

For best results grow Alonsoa meridionalis 'Rebel' in container and bedding displays or rockeries, in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Plants can be kept over winter if they are brought indoors. Sow seed indoors in early spring and plant out young plants once all danger of frost has passed. Learn about a different variety, Alonsoa warscewiczii.
