Acer palmatum is a deciduous, woody shrub native to parts of Asia and Russia. There are many garden-worthy cultivars available, which have been bred for their leaf shapes and colours.
Acer palmatum var. disssectum is a small, slow-growing Japanese maple, with delicate, lacy foliage, small purple flowers and fantastic autumn colour.
Acer palmatum var. disssectum 'Filigree' is a lovely small tree with mottled, variegated, lime-green lacy leaves on weeping branches. Foliage becomes orange before falling in autumn.
For best results, grow ‘Filigree’ in sun or partial shade, and protect it from the harshest winds, which may cause leaf scorch.
