Acer palmatum is a deciduous, woody shrub native to parts of Asia and Russia. There are many garden-worthy cultivars available, which have been bred for their leaf shapes and colours.

Acer palmatum 'Katsura' has pretty lobed leaves, which emerge bright orange in spring, and fade to orange-yellow with a pink margin, and eventually green, with maturity. Autumn colour is bright orange. With its long season of interest, ‘Katsura’ is ideal for smaller gardens, where it should be grown next to a path or near a window so its beauty can be appreciated on cold spring and autumn days.

For best results, grow ‘Katsura’ in sun or partial shade, and protect it from the harshest winds, which may cause leaf scorch.
