Abu and Leti Sidhanee, Sutton, London

Abu and Leti have created a junglesque family-friendly oasis in a small garden suburb in Sutton, London, including a canopy of mature banana and palm trees and an understory of evergreen foliage and flowers. It also features a garden room, a den for their small children, a zone for growing edibles and herbs, and a pond.

Andi and Jo Butler, Telford, Shropshire

Jo and Andi’s garden in Telford, Shropshire, is a lushly planted tapestry of creatively designed rooms, largely inspired by their travels in Asia, using upcycled materials, and working around several mature trees. It includes multiple, innovatively lit seating areas, a greenhouse and an extensive collection of roses and hostas.

Angie Barker, Wigan, Lancashire

Angie has transformed a corner of a new build in Wigan, Lancashire into a secluded retreat using small trees and shrubs to create privacy, with seasonal interest from ornamental flowers and grasses. Seating areas include a decked zone with a pond, a sheltered garden room, and a paved courtyard featuring varied evergreen foliage.

David McFarline, Forest Hill, London

David turned his steeply inclined South London plot in Forest Hill into a peaceful, tiered sanctuary using a series of steps to journey from a lower decked dining area to an upper seating area with pond. Shade-loving plants include two large tree ferns, several small trees, evergreen shrubs, climbers and ground cover.

Sara Faulkner, Raynes Park, London

Sara’s small, linear, urban back garden in Rayne’s Park, London is now a nature-loving haven for her family and for wildlife with several seating areas and a summerhouse. Colourful and textural small trees, shrubs, and perennials provide year-round interest, while vintage furniture and pots give the garden a boho, lived in feel.

Susan Downing, Radway, Warwickshire

Susan’s large front garden in the village of Radford, Warwickshire inspired her to create a colourful, cottage style garden that would complement the listed thatched house and provide joy to family, visitors, and passersby. Features include drifts of mixed perennials, carefully chosen small trees and shrubs, and a pond.
