Our gardens are springing back to life this month, with many plants beginning to poke their heads through the soil and lots of creatures gently emerging from hibernation. In the collection of Gardeners' World clips below, Monty is thinking about how to garden with wildlife in mind.
More wildlife gardening advice:
Feeding birds
Like many of us, Monty derives great pleasure from watching the birds in his garden. In this clip, he explains why it is important to continue providing nourishment for birds, especially in cold weather. He feeds the finches, tits and other birds with seeds, mealworms and suet, and also provides fresh water.
Pond habitats
Pond plants are coming into growth this month and old foliage needs cutting back and clearing. But the mating season for frogs is underway, so it's important not to create any disturbance. Instead of getting in his wildlife pond, Monty works around the frogs, removing rotting vegetation from the edge.
Dahlias for pollinators
Single-flowered dahlias are a fantastic source of pollen and nectar for bees and other insects, and the next few weeks are the best time to get your tubers out of winter storage, ready for the new growing season. In this clip, Monty pots up his dahlias and explains how to grow them on, ready to take cuttings in about a month's time.
