How to turn your greenhouse dream into a reality
Alitex is known for its expertly built Victorian greenhouses, which have been helping gardeners across the country grow their own since 1952
This year at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Alitex will be on stand MA336 getting back to basics, celebrating the original reason greenhouses became so popular: to grow your own produce.
The British glasshouse manufacturer believes as many gardeners as possible should be able to experience the joy of eating their own homegrown fruit and veg, and is passionate about helping gardeners recreate the picturesque nostalgia of a well-ordered vegetable greenhouse. So much so, Alitex is growing all its veg and flowers for this year’s Chelsea display in its own greenhouses at its Torberry Farm in Hampshire.
Happily, Alitex’s extensive collections of world-class greenhouses – which can be designed bespoke to suit your outdoor space – can help you make that horticultural dream a reality too. Not only that, but its stunning, timeless structures can also bring a stylish extra dimension to your garden.
So, go on, be inspired by this year’s flagship gardening event and start growing your own – and while you’re at it, discover just some of the beautiful greenhouse options Alitex can offer you to help you on your way.
National Trust range
Alitex’s partnership with the National Trust began in 2004, since then it has donated over £1 million towards the Trust’s vital restoration and conservation work. From the outset, the two also worked closely together, spending a painstaking amount of time and attention on all the finer details, to create a unique greenhouse collection that would be as home in a small urban garden as it would a large country estate. What’s more, each model is representative of the heritage found within many of the beautiful locations under the care of the National Trust.
The National Trust Greenhouse collection consists of eight greenhouses in a variety of sizes and design shapes, each of which cater to an array of horticultural needs.
Bespoke greenhouses
Alitex’s bespoke greenhouses are amongst the finest in the world, defined by its true respect for the craft that goes into making them.
Available with either a Traditional or Messenger glazing system, its bespoke range is made from low-maintenance, 100% recyclable aluminium, with all internal nuts and bolts concealed and powder-coated to the colour of your choice.
With slim, elegant glazing bars, Alitex’s Traditional greenhouses are closer in look to the National Trust range structures, but are fully bespoke to your growing needs, and can be lean-to as well as free standing. Meanwhile, the Messenger greenhouse design is inspired by the great Victorian engineer Thomas Messenger, replicating traditional timber glasshouses in aluminium.
The Messenger has a slightly wider glazing bar than the Traditional and National Trust greenhouses, and adheres to historic Victorian timber detailing with all internal nuts and bolts concealed in the frame so the structure maintains a wooden aesthetic inside and out. This makes it a perfect display house, and appropriate for sensitive planning locations and replication projects.
