How to brighten up your garden on a dark and gloomy day

With a little help from the Philips Hue Outdoor Lighting range, your garden will look its best no matter what the weather holds

Your garden is a sanctuary of peace and tranquillity for you, so whether you’re catching a breath of fresh air, enjoying a spot of al fresco dining or just unwinding after a long day, creating a relaxed environment is paramount to getting the most from your space. Of course, that can be pretty tricky when the weather isn’t on your side. Months of long, dark evenings and gloomy, overcast mornings can make your outdoor space look and feel a lot less enticing.

Outdoor lighting

The good news is, thanks to the impressive collection of Philips Hue outdoor lighting, you can keep your garden looking inviting all year round. The award-winning White and Colour Ambiance collection boasts a variety of unique styles and designs to suit every open space, from elegant pedestal lights that help accentuate your pathways, to practical wall lights that are perfect for illuminating shadowy corners.

Each device offers more than 16 million colour options including every shade of white light available, so there’s a palette to suit your every mood. This means you could bask in the white light of a summer sun in the middle of winter, extend your evenings long into the night and dial up the festivities with a rainbow of colour on special occasions. And, because every stylish light also features smart technology connection capabilities, you’ll be able to control the brightness, power, tone and colour directly from your phone for ultimate ease of use.

Every Philips Hue product is made from high-quality materials, so it’s able to withstand even the harshest of weather conditions. Just take the Outdoor Fixtures that hold the lights firmly in place. They’ve undergone rigorous testing to ensure they’re resistant to dust and heavy rainfall, which helps them protect your lights and allows them to function at their best.

What’s more, the casing for each light is made using high-quality aluminium and superior synthetics, which is not only practical for outdoor use, but is also ideal for optimised radio frequency, as it allows the smart technology to work without any interruptions.

Esteemed origins

There are many brilliant products within the Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance collection that are designed to suit every aspect of your garden, from walls to pathways. But, the Philips Hue Lily Outdoor Spotlights stands out for its multi-faceted ability to highlight the key features. This device was designed by the landscape architectural practice Davies White for the iconic RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. It was also used by the Royal Horticultural Society to illuminate its Back to Nature© garden, so you can be sure it’s a reliable way to bring out the best in your own.

The Philips Hue Lily Outdoor Spotlights are ideal for up-lighting trees, statues and other stand-out features in your garden. They’re also powerful enough to bathe your outdoor space in swathes of colour, and can even be used to create interesting shadow displays. Simply connect the spotlights into any standard wall socket using the power supply from the Base Pack, and you’ll be able to cultivate a spectacular display to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Lightbulb moment

The Philips Hue Outdoor Lighting range is not only stylish, but practical too, since all the lights are easily controllable from your smartphone or tablet. It’s easy to get set up – just follow this simple, three-step process:

The first step is choosing your light. Some need to be wired into the mains, such as the Hue Appear up/down lights, while others are easy to plug into your external plug sockets, like the Hue Lily spotlights. The lights, power supply, extension cables and connectors can all be bought together as part of a Base Kit, or separately if you’d prefer.

The next step is to download the free Philips Hue App on your smartphone or tablet. It’s from here that you’ll have full control over all of your Philips Hue Outdoor Lights – so, you could set a timer that will turn them on when you approach the driveway or adjust the brightness levels without even having to step outside!

Once your lights are installed, you need to pair them with your Phillips Hue Bridge (sold separately). The Bridge is the hub of the Hue ecosystem, and is what allows you to control them from your smart device. To use it, simply plug it into your router using the provided ethernet cable. You can use one Bridge for up to 50 Hue lights.
